2019 Conference in Milwaukee

After much dialogue and careful consideration, the AMATYC Board has decided not to hold the AMATYC Annual Conference this November.  Although we won’t get to enjoy Spokane this year, we are very excited to announce that the AMATYC Annual Conference will be held in Spokane in 2027.  So remember to cancel your flights and hotel reservations for this year, but then put Spokane on your calendars for November 2027!

Although we believe that this decision in in the best interest of our members’ health and wellbeing, we will definitely miss learning together, networking with new colleagues, and gathering with old friends.  Fortunately, there are many ways for you to stay connected with the AMATYC community.  We are hoping to plan virtual events for you to participate in this fall, but in the meantime take advantage of AMATYC webinars, view our new Teaching Tips videos, read and discuss the MathAMATYC Educator, participate in Committee and ANet activities, and especially join the conversations in the myAMATYC community.

Again, we are very sorry to inform you about this cancellation and we will miss seeing you in person this fall.  However, we hope that your fall term goes well, and we look forward to connecting with you virtually.  And before we know it, we’ll be preparing to gather in Phoenix in October 2021!

Additional Questions and Answers

What will happen with Project ACCCESS?  Project ACCCESS will take a one-year sabbatical.  ACCCESS activities that would have taken place in Spokane will now take place in Phoenix.  Current cohort members should watch their emails for communications.  Applicants to Cohort 17 will be receiving notification soon.  There will be more space for participants in Cohort 17, and applications for Cohort 17 will be accepted through May 17, 2021.

What will happen with Spokane presenters?  All accepted presenters for Spokane should watch their emails for communication from the Conference Committee.

What went into making this decision?  We appreciated the input of AMATYC members who shared their concerns about holding the conference.  In addition to the health and safety concerns, there were many contractual and financial issues to work through in the decision to cancel the conference.  AMATYC leaders spent months monitoring the latest information, consulting with attorneys, and working through many details with the hotels and convention center in Spokane.  We believe that our careful process resulted in the best possible financial outcome for the organization, while still making the right decision for our members.
